Induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) are regarded as ideal cell sources of neural stem cells for the treatment of spinal cord injury (SCI). To minimize the damages to donors, we sought to generate iPSC lines from peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) of a healthy adult using non-integrated episomal reprogramming vectors. We confirmed that generated iPSCs had normal karyotype, expressed classical stemness surface markers, and managed to form teratoma with three typical germ layers in vivo. This cell line would be a valuable cell source for high-efficient generation of nonrenewable cells like neural stem cells for treating SCI. |
