| Popis: | The Ychsma Project (Université Libre de Bruxelles, Belgium - Instituto Nacional de Cultura del Perú) started back in 1999. Its main objectives are the understanding of the functionning, development and influence of the site of Pachacamac during the Late Intermediate Period and Late Horizon, with a focus on monumental architecture. A synthesis of the results is presented here, paying specific attention to the study of pyramids with ramps, their functionning, chronology and role in the site expansion. Extensive and intensive excavations of Pyramid n˚ 3 at Pachacamac as well as strategical explorations of other pyramids of the archaeological area and surroundings suggest new models of interpretation for the site, very different from those proposed until now on the basis of ethnohistorical sources or archaeological data interpreted in reference to those sources. Current advances in the fields of digital survey, building nomenclature and 3D computerized reconstitution of the whole site of Pachacamac are also presented. It is a long-term project aimed to serve as a reference for future investigations and debates about one of the most important settlement of the Central Andes. |
