Popis: | An experiment was conducted at the Agriculture and Forestry University (AFU), Rampur, Chitwan, using an alpha lattice design to examine 47 rice landraces along with 2 check varieties focusing on the evaluation of both qualitative and quantitative characteristics. Thirty-one qualitative variables were observed and 30 characters displayed diverse trait expressions among the 49 rice landraces examined. The highest correlation was observed between days to flowering and physiological maturity (r = 0.89***). Grain yield was significantly positively correlated with filled grains per panicle (r = 0.7***). Thousand-grain weight had a significant positive relationship with grain length (r = 0.45**) and width (r = 0.51***). UPGMA clustering revealed that the genotypes in Cluster VII were superior. The variation observed in the qualitative traits indicates a high level of phenotypic diversity among the studied landraces, suggesting their potential for efficient and effective use in rice breeding programs. Promising landraces can be identified through various yield-related characteristics, such as total effective tillers, 1000 grain weight, panicle length, filled grains per panicle, and overall grain yield. Therefore, this result can be used for future rice improvement initiatives and for evaluating the genetic diversity among morphologically distinct rice landraces. |
