Popis: | Stem cells represent a great hope for regenerative medicine. In adult life, stem cell deposits are kept in organ niches; the need for tissue or organ regeneration mobilizes stem cells via the SDF-1-CXCR4 regulation axis. Constant regeneration of the skin is achieved due to stem cell differentiation within the epidermis and the hair follicle; thus, skin may serve as an excellent source of stem cells. This is of paramount importance in the treatment of chronic skin wounds and burns. (Folia Histochemica et Cytobiologica 2011; Vol. 49, No. 3, pp. 375–380) |
