Popis: The effects of antibiotics on the gut microbiota can lead to enhanced colonization of Clostridioides difficile (C. difficile) and toxin-mediated pathogenesis. Here, using defined toxin-mutant strains and a murine model, the authors provide insights into how toxin-induced inflammation alters C. difficile metabolism, host tissue gene expression and gut microbiota, together influencing a beneficial niche for infection.
