Characterization of adolescent pregnant women at '7 de Noviembre' Teaching Polyclinic

Popis: Introduction: pregnancy in adolescence represents a serious health problem, due to maternal and perinatal complications caused by the lack of hormonal and physical conditioning. Objective: to characterize adolescent pregnant women belonging to “7 de Noviembre” Teaching Polyclinic from Majibacoa municipality during the year 2020. Methods: descriptive-observational, cross-sectional study in adolescent pregnant women from “7 de Noviembre” Teaching Polyclinic, Majibacoa municipality during the year 2020. The target group consisted of 34 adolescent pregnant women. The variables studied were maternal age, risk factors, obstetric history, pregnancy-related diseases and perinatal complications. Results: the adolescent pregnant women (55,9 %) were between 18 and 19 years old, 14,7 % were smokers, and 14,7 % had a history of previous obstetric abortions. Anemia was an associated disease in 26,5 % of the adolescent women. Dystocic births accounted for 26,5 % of the births, and 17,6 % of the newborns of adolescent mothers were preterm. Conclusions: tobacco consumption was common in adolescent pregnant women, as well as previous abortions, anemia, vaginal and urinary tract infections as the main diseases associated with pregnancy. High percentages of deliveries were dystocic and preterm.
