The article dedicated to the personality formation of the world’s outstanding microbiologist Serhiy Mykolayovych Winogradsky who lived and worked in the second half of the 19th and the first half of the 20th century in the conditions of the Ukrainian environment. The circle of his friends and students, the feeling of longing for his native Ukraine during his life in exile, the history of the discovery of the chemosynthesis process described in the paper. The attempts of the Russian scientific historiography to present him as a Russian scientist are debunked. |
