In 1979, a small group of computer users specialised in medieval history launched a publication of a new type: a newsletter called Le Médiéviste et l’Ordinateur. Their goal was to “create a network” in order to exchange information about new research practices that originated from the use of computers in medieval history. This article proposes an analysis of the publication strategies set up by the editors of Le Médiéviste et l’Ordinateur, with the intention of observing how a digital humanities “common culture” can be built upon a publication. In order to do so, we will show how this publication was organised, from the choice of the authors to the distribution of the newsletter. We will then analyse how, within the pages of this publication, editors developed communication strategies in order to present the reader with “technical” content. |
