This interview with Jeffrey Weeks provides an overview of his work in the history and sociology of sexuality. After returning to his main influences, and to the social and political context in which he began his research career, he emphasized the scientific and political importance of studies on sexuality. Far from being a natural and invariant object, sexuality is always in motion and takes various shapes in different historical and political situations. Jeffrey Weeks offers us a panorama of his thought and its evolution in recent decades, emphasizing the place of homosexuals, the influences of globalization on sexuality and the "moral panics" that drive individuals. The interview ends on an optimistic conception of the evolution of our societies, which according to him are moving towards an increseased acceptance and tolerance of the diversification of individual trajectories and sexual identities. |
