Public security requires effort both by the police as the institution responsible for order and safety, and by those bodies with an impact on society, above all governmental institutions, local authorities and by the citizens themselves. The sine qua non of effective police activities is cooperation with various institutions and organisations, but above all with society. As such their measures should be supported by the local communities, and backed up by consultation with citizens, putting their knowledge and experience to good use. In this regard, pro-social, effective and professional measures by police officers can bring the expected results – such as the engagement of different communities in achieving the desired level of security, and above all for maintaining the high level of social trust and positive appraisal of police work. One can see today in Poland that the police are making a noticeable turn back towards society, a turn resulting from them realising the importance of society in preventing and fighting crime. |
