This article proposes a linguistic-textual analysis model inspired by the construal theory of Ronald W. Langacker, with its application in a study of four Chinese translations of the preface of the Book of Disquiet, posthumous work by Fernando Pessoa with authorship attributed at last to semi-heteronym Bernardo Soares. In the preface, the empirical author invents the encounter of a first-person narrator with the fictional author of the Book in a restaurant in Lisbon. Our analysis aims to understand in what way and at what level those translations retell the story told by the original preface in line with the linguistic-textual manifestations of the construal operations. |
