Introduction: Risky sexual behaviors among adolescents can result in high rates of sexually transmitted infections and unwanted pregnancies. Objective: To estimate the prevalence and to identify sociodemographic factors associated with early start of sexual activity and inconsistent condom use among adolescents and young women. Methods: This cross-sectional, community-based study enrolled 1,072 women from 2007 to 2009. The participants were between 15 and 24 years old and were residents of three different mid-sized cities in the state of Goiás, Central-Western region of Brazil.
