Discrimination of Students with High and low Loneliness Feeling on the Basis of Risky Behaviors

Popis: Introduction: Loneliness feeling is a risk factor for health and quality of life. The aim of the present study was to determine the role of tendency to risky behaviors components in discrimination of students with high and low loneliness feeling. Methods: The research method was causal-comparative. The population consisted of all male and female students studying in Kurdistan University of Medical Sciences in 2017-2018 academic years. 216 students were selected by multistage cluster sampling method. For data collection, Russell et al. Loneliness (UCLA) and youth risky behaviors questionnaires were used. Data were analyzed using spss-20 software and the diagnostic analysis test. Results The results of diagnostic analysis test showed that and the components of tendency to drug, psychoactive, and cigarette had the highest discrimination power between the two groups of students with high and low loneliness. Next distinctive components of groups were respectively, the tendency to violence, alcohol, drive dangerously, and the tendency to risky sexual behaviors. Moreover, all the students with high and low loneliness were correctly discriminated from each other with the highest detection percentage (100%) and 100% of the students in the two groups according to the obtained function were properly reclassified. Conclusion: Components of tendency to risky behaviors are important determinants of discrimination between students with high and low loneliness feeling. Therefore, by using loneliness reduction skills training programs can prevent the tendency to high-risk behaviors of students
