This article proposes a critical reading of different contemporary social philosophies. More specifically, it looks at the sociology of Luc Boltanski and the ethics of recognition developed by Axel Honneth, and then in its extension by Emmanuel Renault. The author attempts to demonstrate that, despite their differences, these social philosophies share a common semantic and hermeneutic conception of the role of social critique. Both their conception of critique of ordinary actors and that of theoretical critique must be understood as a semantic work of putting the world into words. Moreover, when reading them, this semantic work must be taken up again and again and be inscribed in a hermeneutic circle that is always being relaunched. Beyond the revelation of this dimension, the article critically questions these social philosophies. If they account for a power linked to the semantic production of criticism, it seems to us that they do not sufficiently elucidate the conditions of exercise of such a power. In order to make this point clear, the article draws on the concept of attention and on the work highlighting the phenomenon of « economization of attention ». |
