Popis: | Barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) is the most important cereal in the arid and semi-arid areas of North Africa with a production of multiple uses (malt and food for both human and animal). However, its productivity remains affected by several diseases including scald caused by Rhynchosporium commune. This disease has gained momentum in arid and semi-arid regions, and it has become one of the most destructive diseases of barley. In this research, the resistance of 33 barley lines and varieties, listed in the Moroccan catalogue, was evaluated under greenhouse conditions, following artificial inoculations during two consecutive growing seasons (2019/2020 and 2020/2021). The study was carried out at two growth stages: the third-leaf stage and the adult stage (booting-heading), in two trials. The results showed that varietal resistance to this disease differs significantly according to the two growth stages. Thus, AC 68, Amria, Arig 8, Chifaa, Igrane and Laânaceur proved to be resistant throughout their growth cycle and for both seasons. These resistant varieties can be used in the national barley breeding program to develop resistance to this biotic constraint. |
