The systematization of knowledge proposed by 'Sistema Positivo' high school’s book for reading and interpretation

Popis: In this paper, I present data from a research, included in the field of Applied Linguistics, that aimed to identify which reading skills are developed from the theoretical and methodological approach given to reading and interpretation of speech genres by sistema Positivo’s book to high school. For data analysis, I proceed to a description of the theoretical and methodological parameters presented by the textbook, as well as the analysis of the sections in which the activities of reading and interpretation are presented to students, using to data analysis some skills that are put into practice during the act of reading. Data analysis indicates that, for the construction of knowledge about the reading and interpretation of speech genres, the textbook presents an excessive attachment to the practice of comprehension, leaving aside the practice of interpretation. Data analysis also shows the total disconnectedness of the teaching reading/interpretation, speaking and writing productions, and linguistic analysis’ axes. In addition, the knowledge offered by the material does not allow a reflection on the nature and functioning of language and, in particular, the mother tongue.
