As a knowledge dissemination and popularization strategy, intratextual reformulation plays a significant role in explaining, defining and describing concepts in informative and explicatory texts. In judicial rulings, however, intratextual reformulations may serve interpretative and argumentative functions, given that judges address legal professionals with whom they assume shared specialist knowledge. The purpose of this paper, therefore, is to concentrate on the interpretative and argumentative functions of intratextual reformulation, as realized in the judicial rulings, via conceptual refinement, definition and characterization of legal notions and legal objects. The main emphasis then lies on the one hand on the collection and analysis of reformulation connectives and, more particularly, on the mechanisms that prompt an interpretative and argumentative function of reformulation in the corpus. |
