Popis: Background: acute ischemic stroke is the third leading cause of death in the world, the first cause of disability and the second cause of dementia. Nowadays, in emergency medicine, risk markers are sought with the aim of predicting complications, mortality and thus targeting vulnerable patients for more aggressive therapeutic efforts. Objective: to test the leucoglycemic index as a prognostic marker of mortality in acute ischemic stroke as well as to calculate the cutoff value. Methods: a retrospective longitudinal analytical study was performed in 45 patients admitted to the Emergent Intensive Care Unit for acute ischemic stroke at the Dr. Carlos J. Finlay Military Hospital, from January 2017 to April 2017. Results: the population group was formed by 45 patients, 21 men and 24 women. Mortality was 28 %. The leukoglycemic index in the group composed by alive people was 1 355 and in the group of deceased ones was 4 029. The cut-off point of the ROC curve was 2506 for a sensitivity of 92 %. Conclusions: the leukoglycemic index is a marker of mortality risk in patients with ischemic stroke, and the higher the leukoglycemic index, the higher the index value. DeCS: GLYCEMIC INDEX; STROKE; MORTALITY; ANALYTICAL METHODS; RISK INDEX.
