Popis: Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant, which helps to improve the body's immune system. The antioxidant property of vitamin C reduces inflammation and improves the body's defense function against pathogens. In an interventional study, a total of 210 COVID-19 patients admitted to the intensive care units were randomly divided into two control and intervention groups. The intervention group received a treatment protocol including a high-dose vitamin C (12 g of vitamin C via a pump within four hours, which was repeated every 12 hours) for a week. About 60% of the patients in both groups died with no significant difference in the mortality rate between the two groups (p = 0.747). There was no improvement in the length of hospital stay, the degree of O2 saturation, and the mortality rate of the patients. No severe adverse effects were shown with this dose of vitamin C in ICU patients.
