The outlook of rejection of the traditional forms of social or political participation and the analyses of the new forms of youth engagement provide us relevant understanding to grasp the involvement of youth at risk. However, following the results of a doctoral research, it appears that these analyzes do not fully understand the development of an alternative to participation developed in the everyday situations of marginality, among others. Issues of invisibility, illegitimacy of certain forms of engagement as well as the characteristics of non-engagement postures can be an extremely difficult issue in conceptualisation. But, experienced in everyday life, in the socialization experiences, some forms of engagement underline youth at risk’s forms of participation in public space, more or less visible and recognized. Through the results of a comprehensive study, this paper aims to analyse the outlines of the engagement of marginalized youth and to propose another reading of these with the "alter-engagement" concept. |
