Popis: The aim of Zellidja’s scholarships for going abroad granted between 1939 and 1972 was shape both character and personality of secondary school pupils and the best way to become part of the elite of men of action with outlooks on the world broadened. They were backed financially by Jean Walter, the architect who played a part in the social reforms movements at the beginning of the twentieth century and organized by the general inspector Louis François, the instigator of the active methods in secondary schools. The analysis of the archives and of the intervews of formes scolarship holders reveals that these grants were given according to the logic of the republican elitism. For the young people from the bourgeoisie, in most cases, they were the continuity of the family socialization plans whose goal was to reach the highest positions. For the most modest secondary pupils they were felt like a change in the course of life, a change which was supposed to favour the opening to so many possible futures.
