Popis:	The article analyses the issues of education in Western Europe in the 12th century. The changes in the medieval society, which were reflected in the learning process of the intellectual elite, are described and analyzed. Particular attention is paid to the preservation of the significance of the pedagogical heritage of Martianus Capella. In addition, the author identifies the main directions for the further development of medieval education.
