Popis: This article highlights the role of Shay, a Belgian Afro-descendant artist, as a central figure in Afro-feminism within the French-speaking urban pop music scene. Inspired by figures such as Rihanna and Beyoncé from the African-American music scene, Shay blends rap and singing to explore the intricacies of her intersectional feminism through her music. Her songs address themes ranging from resistance to male domination to financial empowerment and combating harassment, while overturning traditional gender and sexuality norms. Despite the predominantly male landscape of rap, Shay adopts a confident and feminine stance, encouraging the participation and visibility of women in this artistic sphere. Through her provocative image as a “pretty bad girl,” she emerges as a leading figure of Afro-feminism in French-speaking rap, thus promoting the uniqueness and empowerment of women.
