The present work describes a simple, environmentally benign and green method for the reduction of nitro group containing Schiff bases to reduce amine Schiff bases in presence of catalyst gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) in aqueous medium. Reduce amino Schiff base was characterized by Mass and 1H NMR spectroscopy. AuNPs and silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) were synthesized using aqueous extract of leaves of Malva verticillata. The synthesized nanoparticles particles were characterized using UV-visible spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction analysis, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) images. Interestingly, among these two metal nanoparticles, AgNPs show very good antibacterial activity which makes them a potent source of antibacterial agent. On the other hand, AuNPs were found to be better catalytic activity toward the hydride transfer reduction of the aromatic nitro Schiff bases to aromatic amine reduce Schiff bases. |
