This study, based on Ribeiro’s (2018) MA thesis, focuses on Brazilian Portuguese Caused Motion Construction (BPCMC), analyzing 101 actual instances of this construction extracted from Corpus NILC/São Carlos. The analysis proposes that verbs which instantiate this construction can be organized into 12 semantic classes. We account for this fact by positing a taxonomic network that displays three fully abstract (i. e., lexically unspecific) hierarchical levels. In this vein, this work contributes to deepening our understanding of the BPCMC, given that previous analyses either focus on particular aspects of this symbolic pattern (FERRARI, 2016) or represent only a limited portion of the relevant constructional network (FURTADO DA CUNHA, 2017). |
