Popis: Assets are essential economic resources owned or controlled by a person or organization, and play a vital role across diverse domains, ranging from tangible assets to intangible assets including hybrid assets. However, the concept of managing assets also varies across domains. The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) provides several asset management (AM) standards and defines AM as the coordinated activity of an organization to realize value from assets. While a plethora of literature has been published on AM in various sectors involving the integration of different technologies with numerous potential merits, there remains a gap in systematically summarizing and organizing the trend of research in the AM landscape with immersive technologies. This gap could be attributed to the prevailing focus of contemporary researchers on technologies like Artificial intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), Building Information Model (BIM), and Digital Twin (DT), with limited attention to immersive technology, including Augmented Reality (AR), Virtual Reality (VR), Mixed Reality (MR) and Extended Reality (XR). To address this deficiency, this study conducts a comprehensive systematic literature review that explores AM in diverse settings involving immersive technology. The objective is to offer a well-structured and rigorous approach to understanding the research trends and adoption of different technologies in AM across diverse settings over the past 13 years between 2010 and 2023, using two reputable search engines, Google Scholar and Scopus. Furthermore, the study was guided by a well-defined research methodology, with explicit phases such as inclusion and exclusion criteria. This process narrowed down to 237 papers, and after undergoing rigorous quality assessment, 218 papers were retained. Results from the reviewed papers revealed the distribution of different technologies integrated in AM across various settings focusing on solutions that enhance AM and a comparative analysis of the technologies. This work classified the management of assets in each domain based on the predominant technology. Furthermore, the study shows that the integration of immersive technology in AM is evolving; and that VR accounted for 36%; AR accounted for 14%; XR 11%, MR 1%, and 38% of the reviewed papers implemented immersive technologies in conjunction with other technologies. This work acknowledges potential study limitations and threats to validity due to exclusion criteria but emphasizes their minimal impact on the findings. Furthermore, the study summarized key development milestones and technology prospects of AM and provided insights and avenues for future research. To the best of the researchers’ knowledge, this study is the first of its kind to explore key trends and prospects with immersive technology in this domain of interest.
