Background: Diabetes mellitus is associated with an increased risk of restenosis, stent thrombosis, and death afterpercutaneous coronary interventions. Little is known about the late outcome of patients with diabetes mellitus whoreceive drug-eluting stents (DES) or bare metal stents (BMS).Methods: From January 2008 to January 2010, six patients with DES and 20 with BMS, ISR were identified at ourinstitution. Results: The median age of our diabetic cohort was 63 years, and 87 of the patients were male. For two years, ratesof repeat target-vessel revascularization were significantly lower among diabetic patients treated with DEScompared with those treated with BMS (5.8% vs. 17.0%, p=0.003).Conclusions: DES is effective among diabetic patients in substantially reducing the need for repeat TVR. |
