This article deals with the political culture of the descendants of slaves in the north of the viceroyalty of Peru. Through the examination of a little studied archive, the anonymous letter of the parish priest of the village of Samborondón, this analysis claims to show the capacity of self-inclusion of Free-Black militiamen in the electoral process to select the representatives indianos for the junta of Cadiz. In this way, this text illustrates not only the will of political inclusion of the Free-Black Infantry Militais but also their success. |
