Popis: | Turkey is among the countries that subjected to gully erosion. Gully erosion is common on sloping areas mainly composed of silty and sandy materias and poor vegetation cover. Such areas are found on the deeply weathered volcanic, metamorphic, fluvio-lücustrine deposits and sandy and silty layers of flysch. Main reason on the gully development is related to easily transportation of sandy materials by runoff on the sloping areas. Besides gullies are common on the evaporitic sediments containing abundant carbonates, clorines and sulphates, marl and peridotite-serpentine subjecting to swell and shrivel when saturated with water. In Turkey gullies are widespread on north slopes of Boz Mountains, on the south slopes of Aydın Mountains, in the vicinity of Pütürge, Baskil, Strandja, Kaz and Ulu Mountain. Other gully areas are found along Aras Valley, Oltu-Narman basin, part of Taurus Mountains, east and southeast of Burdur Basin, around Beypazarı, between Çameli-Acıpayam, middle part of Mut basin and upper parts of Ceyhan and Seyhan river basins. Gully areas also correspond to desertification areas. The main aim of this study is to illuminate the effects of parent materials on the gully erosion formation and its distrubution in Turkey. |
