Coherent pluggable optics are rapidly evolving and are introducing advanced optical capabilities not yet supported in current standard packet host systems. A management paradigm is presented, that simplifies the integration of smart optical pluggables into hosts, accelerating the deployment of these advanced optical capabilities into disaggregated networks and a wide set of host devices. It relies on a host-independent management channel which integrates into the optical transport control system, maintaining the separation between packet and optical domains. |
