This study is a version of some reflections on the comparative analysis of congregational singing in schools in Argentina (1930-1950) and Brazil (1930-1950). Weve started the study, along with Nogueira (1994) and Serratia (2005), that an analytical investment in both countries might produce a consistent comparison. Weve used as sources two reports written by Villa-Lobos on the Orpheonic Singing project implemented in Brazil and the findings of studies by two Argentine researchers investigating the history of music education in their country. Initially we present the ideological foundations of musical practice in question, then we discussed similarities and differences with respect to issues of music as cultural discourse and its implications for teaching. Finally, in the dialogue of pedagogical music by Villa-Lobos in Brazil and Kodlys ideas used in Argentina, it is clear that the objectives proposed by both projects, despite following different paths, in many respects meet the needs of music educators and government to value their homeland folk culture and exaltation. |
