Popis: | Abstract: In 1242 (1863), the United Kingdom united the governments of Herat, Kabul and Kandahar and then created Afghanistan. At that time, there were regional disputes between Iran and Afghanistan. It was because of the lack of precise delimitation. With the intensification of the border dispute between Iran and Afghanistan, the two governments decided to refer non-British arbitration in accordance with Article 10 of the 1921 Iran-Afghanistan Treaty, which emphasized the transfer of border arbitration to a government other than Britain. The Turkish government accepted it and appointed General Fakhr al-Din Altai to the leadership of the arbitration panel. On October 16, 1935, the Iranian parliament passed a bill on the basis of the ruling of the Altay. The aim of this paper is to first consider how Turkey determined the eastern borders of Iran, and secondly, explain the process of territorial disputes between Iran and Afghanistan in this region. This research, based on descriptive-analytical method, seeks to answer this question: What was an Altay's decree about Iran-Afghanistan borders and what were its consequences? The findings of the research show that an Altai's unilateral vote in favor of Afghanistan is not based on personal considerations, but reflects Turkey's vast macroeconomic policies to undermine Iran and its closeness to Afghanistan.
