The prevalence of persistent sciatic artery in the general population is estimated to be between 0.01 % to 0.05 %, with a high incidence of aneurysm formation in patients who have this embryological vascular malformation. Here, we present the case of a 70-year-old man with a painful pulsatile buttock mass caused by a Type 1 persistent sciatic artery aneurysm, an anatomical variation that is rarely reported in the literature. He was treated with endovascular coil embolization which successfully resulted in complete resolution of his symptoms. Endovascular repair can achieve symptomatic relief of this rare anomaly in patients with amenable anatomy. |
