The purpose of this paper is to determine the critical success factors (CSFs) for JV projects that influence the outcome of JV projects based on empirical data analysis. A positivist philosophy was adopted for this research, using structured questionnaire survey to collect data. Content validity of the questionnaire was achieved using pilot study. The data was collected from 115 conveniently sampled construction professionals, and analyzed using principal component analysis and multiple regression analysis. The exploratory factor analysis revealed two empirical models to be tested. The 1st order and 2nd order factor model. The result of the 1st order model revealed that management control influenced achievement of project objective of JV. Whereas, the 2nd order model established that understanding of contractual agreement, which was explained by six components of CSFs influenced achievement of project objective. It is suggested that stakeholders wishing to be involved in JV projects should consider understanding contractual agreement in managing their JV projects in order to achieve project objective success. This study adds to the literature on CSFs of JVs and provides new empirical evidence in the context of South Africa which can also be replicated in other countries globally. Future study should provide analysis of the CSFs used for selected type of JV. |
