Introduction: Spinal injuries, particularly present significant challenges in healthcare settings, especially in remote and underserved regions like Nepal. Understanding the patterns and characteristics of dorsolumbar spine injuries is crucial for effective treatment and prevention strategies. This study focuses on cases admitted to a provincial hospital in remote Nepal over a two-year period. Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted among 200 patients admitted to Provincial Hospital of remote Nepal over two years. A descriptive cross-sectional approach was employed to analyze the demographics, mode of injury, level of spine injury, and ASIA classification of the cases. Convenience sampling was done. Data were collected and entered in Microsoft Excel and analyzed using Statistical Package for the Social Sciences version 24.0. Point estimate at 95 % Confidence Interval was calculated along with frequency and percentage for binary data along with mean and standard deviation for continuous data. Results: Out of the 200 cases admitted to the provincial hospital, 56 (28 %) patients underwent surgery for dorsolumbar spine injuries. Gender distribution revealed 29 (51.8 %) females and 27 (48.2 %) males, highlighting a near-equal representation. Conclusions: This study sheds light on the demographic and clinical characteristics of dorsolumbar spine injuries in a provincial hospital in remote Nepal. |
