Introduction: The oral health of older adults is not exempt from the influence of social determinants. Objectives: To characterize oral health conditions and to identify the relationship between the social determinants of health and the oral health. Material and Methods: A descriptive research was conducted. The universe and the sample consisted of 35 772 and 1 569 individuals, respectively. A survey developed by the authors and the examination of the oral cavity were used for collecting the information; the results are shown in tables, using absolute frequency measurements and Chi-square stadigraphs to establish the association between variables. Results: From the results of this study we found that 61,4 % of individuals have regular oral health condition while 23,1 % and 15,5 % have bad and good conditions, respectively. On the other hand, 74,5 % of women have good oral health, 54,7 % of the elderly with pre-university education have good conditions, and 35,9 % with secondary education have bad conditions. Also, 66,6 % report having a poor economic wellbeing and 57 % report that their basic needs are not satisfied. Conclusions: There is a significant relationship between the social determinants of health and oral health conditions in the older adults studied in Plaza de la Revolución Municipality. |
