Popis: Deformation-induced defects with high formation energy are difficult to nucleate in aluminium. Here, the authors use a miniaturized projectile impact to nucleate the high stacking fault energy 9R phase in a thin film of ultrafine-grained aluminium, and show sessile Frank loops stabilize it.
