Popis: | In a study cited in the article, it is proved that in patients with traumatic spinal cord disease mineral bone density (MBD) were significantly lower than in healthy persons, while MBD significantly shorter in patients with traumatic disease. This has led to the conclusion that severe damage to the spinal cord with a profound motor deficit leads to a rapid loss of bone mass in the first years after the injury, with the development of secondary osteoporosis, which progresses with the duration of traumatic disease. Monitoring MBD in this category of patients will allow to distinguish patients with high risk of fractures and timely correction of bone and prevent fractures. |
