Popis: This article focuses on moments of co-presence between parents, children, and professionals (based on ordinary activities, such as games, meals, walks, etc.) within compulsory assistance apparatuses in the field of child protection, more specifically within a Swiss placement apparatus. We wager that, from an educational point of view, something very specific is played out in these moments and that in order fully to reap the benefits, it is necessary better to understand this dynamic. We contend that being present and participating in a moment of co-presence does not produce the same requirements nor provide the same opportunities as interview- or meeting-based apparatuses. It seems important to us to bring out these specificities with a view to supporting the extended forms of participation that are offered to parents and children.Taking a work analysis approach, enhanced by pragmatism and phenomenology, we therefore used a range of data (observations, 3 films, 6 “self-confrontation” interviews) to examine how professionals act in these moments in order to promote the best interests of the child. Our research allowed us, with the professionals, to model two ways of inhabiting these moments: Only one of these considers that in the here and now, between the three individuals, imperceptibly, something important is happening.
