Introduction: Periodontal diseases are the most common affections of mankind and they are defined as a chronic immunoinflamatory reaction of the protection or insertion periodonto. Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of the topic watery extract Mangifera indica L. as mouthwash in patients with edematous and fibroedematous chronic gingivitis. Methods: A study of therapeutic intervention was carried out in 84 patients with edematous and fibroedematous chronic gingivitis, assisted in Mártires del Moncada Teaching Provincial Stomatologic Clinic in Santiago de Cuba, from November, 2014 to the same month in 2015. The sample was divided in 2 groups (study and control) of 42 members each one, treated with topic watery extract of Mangifera indica L. and with watery solution of chlorhexidine at 0.2 %, respectively.
