Efficacy of Intra-Operative Periarticular Injections among Patients Undergoing Total HIP Arthroplasty

Popis: | OBJECTIVE: To determine the efficacy of intra-operative periarticular injections (PAIs) among patients undergoing primary total hip arthroplasty. METHODOLOGY: This study was conducted at the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Institute of Orthopaedics and Surgery Hospital, Karachi, from June 2021 to December 2022. This quasi-experimental study was done using a non-probability purposive sampling technique. Using the random table method, patients were randomly divided in two groups, i.e. groups A and B. Group A was the experimental group, having 34 patients treated with intra-operative PAI, while group B, also having 34 patients, was the control group. Data was entered and analyzed by the computer program SPSS-25. RESULTS: 68 patients undergoing primary total hip arthroplasty were included; 41.2% (n=28) were male, and 58.8% (n=40) were female.
