The BRICS countries (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa) have individually embarked on the path of transitioning to sustainable energy sources, albeit with variations in progress and approaches. This article examines the renewable energy grid of the BRICS countries, namely South Africa, Brazil, China, India, and Russia. It compares and evaluates the capacity of different renewable energy technologies. The study presents both the positive and negative impacts of renewable energy on the economic development, overseas investment, domestic production, power sustainability, and environmental protection in all BRICS states. Among these countries, there has been a particular emphasis on solar and wind power, with solar power accounting for the majority of recent capacity additions. In general, the BRICS countries are actively working towards increasing the proportion of renewable energy in their energy mix, though their progress and targets may vary. While they have taken steps towards sustainable energy, there is still scope for improvement in terms of reducing reliance on fossil fuels and accelerating the adoption of renewable energy sources. |
