The article aims to study the tears within Horace’s Satires, or in other words, in a genre that has its identity gesture in the opposite laughter. Such an investigation, supported by the tools of the pragmatics of human communication and linguistic and stylistic analysis, shows how the poet integrated tears into his satirical work. The analysis concerns the presence, contexts, functions, effects, and linguistic expressions used in describing the crying gesture with considerations also on their register. |
