Actinidia arguta, a liana closely related to well-known Actinidia deliciosa, can be cultivated in Central European conditions thanks to its frost hardiness. The fruit, called kiwi berry, offers a rich source of vitamins and minerals. Micropropagation can be successfully applied in addition to traditional techniques for this species. We established an explant culture of a self-polinating variety ‘Issai’, induced its multiplication and subsequent rooting, after obtaining sufficient number of lateral shoots. The rooted explants were transferred ex vitro. We confirmed high effectivity of in vitro approach for propagation of Actinidia, but during further cultivation in greenhouse, it was massively attacked by pests, which led to health deterioration and repeated need of spraying. |
