Popis: | This study aimed to investigate the effect of narrative therapy on meaning in life and its components (presence-of-meaning and search-for-meaning) among female students of Tehran universities. For this purpose, the quasi-experimental design of pretest-posttest-follow-up with a nonequivalent control group was used. The sample consisted of 24 female students aged 18 to 30 years who were selected by convenience sampling and assigned to intervention and control groups. Both groups were assessed at the pre-test by the Meaning in Life Questionnaire Estger et al. Then, the intervention group participated in 7 weekly group-narrative-therapy sessions. Both groups were re-evaluated in post-test and 9-months follow-up. The data analyzed by repeated-measures analysis of variance showed that narrative-therapy in the post-test phase significantly increased the presence-of-meaning in the intervention group compared to the control group. This difference was still significant in the follow-up. Regarding the search-of-meaning component, the groups did not show a significant difference in any of the stages. There were no significant differences in the total scores of meaning-in-life between groups in the pre-test and post-test. However, the decrease in the control group scores in the follow-up resulted in a significant difference in this period. From these findings, it can be concluded that narrative-therapy in the short term increases the presence-of-meaning and, in the medium term, protects the individual from reducing meaning-in-life. |
