This work analyzes the phenomenon of digital diplomacy, more specifically, how the Brazilian diplomacy used Twitter to initially position itself internationally on the issue of the Impeachment of President Dilma Rousseff. It is assumed that because of changes in foreign policy from the new information technologies, Twitter presents itself as an efficient channel of communication and dissemination of diplomatic information in the contemporary world. To verify this proposition, six posts from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Twitter, on May 13th, 2016, will be analyzed in repudiation of the manifestations of some governments of Latin America against the impeachment of the President of the Republic, Dilma Rousseff. It is questioned: how, in this specific case, Brazilian diplomacy in the government of interim President Michel Temer made compatible the new technologies to communicate their position among governments and to disseminate information instantly among citizens around the world? Methodologically, the article makes use of a discourse analysis on how Twitter posts. In addition, an interdisciplinary literature was used in the fields of International Relations and Social Communication. |
