Popis: This article focuses on a specific “Slow” movement, Cittaslow, which was born in Italy in the late 1990s. It analyzes its implementation in the French municipalities: the reasons for joining the network, the consequences of the membership on local politics, the representations local actors have of “Slow” and slowness, the links that these actors establish between the notion of Slow and of sustainability. On the one hand, the text highlights the ambiguous relationships of the local actors with the notion of slowness, which is not an object of valorization. Nevertheless, the actors pay attention to time and speed, mainly through the valuation of three elements: the “well-being”, the sustainability and the local environment. On the other hand, the article highlights the plurality of the realities of Cittaslow and the differences of positioning and commitment of the actors. Some consider the Cittaslow label as a recognition of actions already undertaken. On the contrary, other actors consider it as a driving force producing a set of actions, they use as a guideline.
