| Popis: | Although diversity is a defining characteristic of much urban life, globalization and economic restructuring have led to an increase in socio-spatial stratification within modern cities. Socioeconomic differentiation is arguably the most important dichotomy within large metropolitan areas. However, demographic factors such as age, fertility, family and household structure, education level, and migration patterns of urban society also play key roles in the social life of urban areas. Thus, there are clear patterns to the geo-demographics of cities – in large part due to the tendency for certain social groups of individuals to occupy particular niches within the urban fabric. Using neighbourhood-level census and housing data from the year 2000, this paper focuses on the pattern of socio-spatial differentiation and segmentation in Ankara, Turkey’s capital city. The study applies k-means Clustering Analysis to identify the underlying dimensions of the formation of socio-spatial patterns in the city.
