This article presents the results of a quantitative analysis of images showing employees at work featuring on the websites of quebec-based large video game studios (more than 100 employees), in the light of statistics on the socio-demographic profiles, working conditions and satisfaction levels of employees in the Quebec video game industry. A comparative analysis of these two sets of data shows that these images paint a much brighter picture of diversity, equity and inclusion within this workforce than it actually is. This may, on the one hand, encourage women and racialized people to pursue a career in this industry, but it also masks, on the other hand, certain problems that persist in the studios. |
