Popis: Purpose: To assess the effects of age, gender, height, weight and body surface area on abdominal aortic diameter in the Indian population. Methods: Abdominal aortic diameter was measured at three levels, viz. at the origin of the superior mesenteric artery, just distal to origin of the lower renal artery and at the aortic bifurcation, in 503 individuals 18–50 years of age who had undergone contrast-enhanced CT scan for any abdominal pathology at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, New Delhi and were not known to be suffering from coronary artery disease, diabetes mellitus, hypertension or peripheral arterial disease. Results: The diameter of the abdominal aorta decreased from cephalad to caudad. The mean (SD) diameter was 16.78 (1.96) mm at the level of the superior mesenteric artery; 14.96 (1.82) mm at the level distal to the origin of the lower renal artery; and 12.17 (1.5) mm just superior to the aortic bifurcation. The corresponding diameters were 17.49, 15.58 and 12.60 mm for men and 15.57, 13.89 and 11.14 mm for women, respectively. Age, gender, height, weight, body mass index and body surface area were associated significantly with aortic diameter by multivariate linear regression (p
